South Asia is famous for its overwhelming effects on the senses. From urban sprawl to remote villages, from mountaintop kingdoms to ancient civilizations, from majestic temples to humble shacks––the sights, sounds, and smells illustrate the vibrancy of life. Perhaps the most captivating part of South Asia is its people. More than one billion people––more than one-fifth of the world’s total population––live in South Asia. They represent a diverse range of backgrounds, religions, socioeconomic statuses, and general walks of life. But what is truly overwhelming is the realization that these more than one billion people, made up of Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and tribal peoples, don’t know the one true God. More specifically, 682 people groups don’t have any access to the gospel––no Bible, no church, no Christians among them. South Asia needs Jesus, the only one who can satisfy their search for eternal life.
More than one billion eyes and hearts in South Asia are looking for hope. Join us as we join God in the things he is doing among South Asians to make himself known.
As a native of South Asia region along with our local partners we have come to observe that 90% of the population does not know that Bibles exist in their heart languages except for a few major translations that have existed for decades. There are many initiatives globally translating the word in the heart languages but availability is scarce and distribution networks are limited to only a few Christian stores in these regions.
I have traveled extensively in South Asia region into unreached & unengaged locations to observe that rural village congregations usually have to share bibles with each other (ratio of 1 bible for 50 people) and in majority of the cases congregations have to wait for a week for the pastor to deliver a sermon during his visit. Rural pastors find it difficult to purchase bibles for their congregations due to economic reasons also because they live hundreds of miles from urban settlements where bibles can be bought.
In 2017, I met a team that was translating bibles in languages for people who are still unengaged and found that they had translated the New Testament in one of the languages called "Haryanvi" for a people group which is considered to be 100% unreached according to Joshua project. I got really excited when I found that the Bible had been translated 5 years ago so I asked the team where I could buy them to distribute among our church network to which they replied; they had only printed a few copies some years back. This event led us to conduct a survey to find that 96% communities for whom these bibles are intended for; have neither seen these translations or have resources to mass produce them.
This is the gap area our team diligently works to serve:
1. Provide access to congregations & grass root leaders with Bibles which have been translated in their heart language.
2. In cases where Bibles are not available for a certain language we get them printed so that those specific people groups can have access to scriptures.
3. Provide Bibles to those communities & congregations in rural country of South Asia who cannot afford Bibles.
4. In some cases where communities are extremely rural and require audio bibles we will give them access to solar audio bibles.
Please join this cause of making the word of God more accessible to the unengaged among us.
